Peddapalli, Sept.15 : The Godavarikhani One Town police arrested two youths from Secunderabad and seized 1.05 kilograms of dry cannabis (ganja) valued at ₹52,500 during a vehicle checking drive near the Godavarikhani bus stand out-gate on Tuesday afternoon.
The arrested individuals were identified as Pinnoji Gopi (24), a carpenter, and Macharla Pawan Kumar (19), a butcher, both residents of the Malkajgiri area in Secunderabad. According to the police, the duo attempted to flee upon noticing the police team conducting checks at around 12:30 PM on September 15. Police personnel quickly pursued and intercepted them. A search of their luggage in the presence of panchas led to the recovery of packets containing dry cannabis leaves and fruiting tops.
During interrogation, the accused confessed to purchasing the contraband from an unidentified person near the Chandrapur railway station in Maharashtra with the intention of smuggling it to Hyderabad for illegal sale. Investigations revealed that the duo traveled by train from Chandrapur to Mancherial, and then boarded an auto-rickshaw to Godavarikhani to evade police surveillance before heading toward Hyderabad. Police seized the 1.05 kg cannabis, along with a bag and a mobile phone used in the operation. A case has been registered at the Godavarikhani One Town police station, and both suspects were remanded to judicial custody.
