Rajannna Sircilla, Sept. 22 : Tangallapalli police arrested two men for extortion after they allegedly threatened villagers and collected money under the pretext of bribing police officers to secure station bail in a registered case. Sircilla DSP Nagendra Chari disclosed the details of the arrests during a briefing on Tuesday, September 22, 2026.
According to police, a brawl took place on the night of August 26, 2026, at Sarampalli village between Rangu Bharat Kumar—son of Ramulu, a resident of Padmanagar in Tangallapalli mandal—and individuals from Desaipalli village. Following the incident, a case was registered at the Tangallapalli Police Station. Capitalizing on the situation, the two accused—Bendram Pawan from Padmanagar and Asani Srikanth Reddy from Tangallapalli—approached Ramulu and demanded ₹50,000, claiming the money was required to pay the police to obtain station bail and keep his son out of jail.
On August 31, 2026, the duo visited Ramulu’s house and threatened him again. Fearing legal consequences for his son, Ramulu handed over ₹20,000, while another youth involved in the altercation, Rangu Tilak, paid ₹10,000 to the accused. Realizing he had been duped, Ramulu lodged a formal complaint with the Tangallapalli police, who subsequently registered a case and arrested both Pawan and Srikanth Reddy on Tuesday.
Warning the public against such fraudulent schemes, Sircilla DSP Nagendra Chari stated that demanding money or offering false promises in the name of the police is a severe offense. He appealed to citizens not to trust intermediaries and urged anyone facing similar demands to immediately report them to local police stations or dial 112.
