Bhadradri Kothagudem, Oct.1 : The Julurpad police have arrested 22-year-old Devarakonda Pawan Kumar in connection with the murder of Indrapalli Harini (18), a BSc Nursing student, in Kothagudem district. The arrest comes following a swift investigation into the incident that occurred under the Julurpad police station limits.
According to the police, the victim was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her residence in Vengannapalem village between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on September 22, 2026. Based on a complaint filed by Harini’s mother, Rajeshwari, the police initially registered a case of suspicious death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). However, the post-mortem report later confirmed that Harini was strangled to death with a wire-like object, prompting authorities to alter the charge to murder under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Investigating officers revealed that Harini and Pawan Kumar had been in a relationship for four years and intended to marry. However, following recent disputes between their families, Harini declined to marry him, which drove Pawan Kumar to commit the crime. After the murder, the suspect went into hiding. Acting on credible information that Pawan Kumar had returned to retrieve his hidden motorcycle (bearing registration number TS-28-G-9583) near the Sitarama Project Canal on Ontigudise Road to flee to a distant location and work for a bike-taxi service, the Julurpad CI, SI, and police personnel laid a trap and apprehended him.
Addressing the media, Kothagudem DSP Adinarayana stated that officers seized the Glamour motorcycle, two mobile phones—including the victim’s phone—the bike gear wire used as the murder weapon, and the shirt worn by the suspect during the crime. The accused has been taken into custody, and further legal proceedings and investigation are underway.
