Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Aug.18 : The Bhupalapally Principal District and Sessions Court sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹1,000 after convicting him in a minor girl sexual assault case registered under Kataram police station limits. Principal District Judge J. Jeevan Kumar delivered the verdict on Tuesday after finding the accused, Elagonda Naveen, guilty based on overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution.
According to the prosecution, the incident dates back to 2021 when the victim, a minor girl from Malharrao mandal studying intermediate in Hanumakonda, came into contact with Naveen, a resident of Motlagudem village in Mulugu district, via Instagram. Promising marriage, Naveen lured her out of her house on April 3, 2021. When she arrived at Baswapur in Kataram mandal, he took her to a friend’s house in Barlagudem via Pasra, where he held her captive for three days and repeatedly sexually assaulted her. He later moved her to his native village and subjected her to further assault. Following a missing person complaint lodged by her father at the Kataram police station, the girl eventually returned home and disclosed the ordeal.
Based on the father’s complaint, the then Kataram Station House Officer (SHO) Sambamurthy registered a case, while the then Kataram Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bonala Kishan arrested Naveen, placed him in remand, and filed a comprehensive chargesheet. During trial, Special Public Prosecutors N. Vishnuvardhan Rao and Venkatram effectively presented the case, while Court Duty Officer K. Ramesh, under the guidance of Liaison Officer G. Venkanna, produced key witnesses. Satisfied with the evidence, the court awarded the sentence. Bhupalapally Superintendent of Police Kirishetti Kirankumar, commended Kataram DSP Suryanarayana, Inspector Nagarjuna Rao, Sub-Inspector Srinivas, Court Monitoring Officer PCR Inspector Raju, and the investigation officers for securing the conviction.
