Karimnagar, Oct.7 : Demanding 24-hour uninterrupted, quality power supply for farmers and measures to save drying crops, former MLA Sunke Ravishankar and BRS leader Kotha Jaipal Reddy led a large-scale protest and dharna at the Gangadhara crossroads on Wednesday. A significant number of local farmers, and party cadres participated in the demonstration.
Addressing the gathering, the BRS leaders alleged that farmers across the state are suffering severely due to frequent power outages. He pointed out that power disruptions at the crucial grain-formation stage of the paddy crop are leaving fields dry and placing agricultural yields at serious risk. He criticized the administration for imposing power cuts at a time when farmers are working tirelessly to irrigate their fields.
Ravishankar recalled that the Congress party had promised 24-hour quality power supply to the agricultural sector prior to the elections, but the current situation has created widespread anxiety among cultivators. He urged the state government to fulfill its commitments regarding Rythu Bharosa, farm loan waivers, crop bonuses, and paddy procurement without further delay.
Warning of intensified agitation, the former legislator stated that if the power supply is not restored immediately to full capacity, BRS cadres along with farmers will besiege electricity sub-stations across villages and organize protests at District Collectorate offices. He affirmed that the BRS will continue to fight on behalf of the farming community until all their grievances are addressed.
