Jagtial, Aug.19 : The Jagtial district police have successfully recovered and handed over 102 lost or stolen mobile phones, valued at approximately ₹21 lakhs, to their rightful owners. District Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar distributed the devices during a special program held at the district police headquarters, urging citizens to make active use of the central Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal to report missing gadgets.
Addressing the gathering, the Superintendent of Police stated that the CEIR website is an effective tool for tracking and recovering missing mobile phones quickly. He noted that the police department has formed a dedicated recovery team led by an inspector, assisted by a head constable and two constables. Since the launch of the CEIR portal, the district police have recovered 2,400 phones worth approximately ₹4.5 crores and returned them to citizens. He cautioned that ignoring a lost phone poses personal and social security risks, as stolen devices can be misused by criminals for illegal activities.
The Superintendent also advised the public to check the IMEI status of any second-hand mobile phone on the CEIR portal before purchasing it. Furthermore, citizens who find lost phones were urged to hand them over to the nearest police station or return them directly to the owners. He commended the IT Core Inspector and the CEIR team for their exceptional technical performance in recovering the devices and presented them with rewards.
Highlighting the rising threat of cybercrime, the Superintendent urged the public to stay alert against online fraud. He advised people not to respond to fake phone calls or international numbers from unknown callers and never to share personal or financial details with strangers. In case of any cyber fraud, victims were encouraged to immediately call the cybercrime helpline number 1930.
Several beneficiaries shared their experiences and expressed heartfelt gratitude to the district police for tracking down and returning their lost devices using advanced technology. Additional Superintendent of Police Chetan Nitin, IT Core Inspector Srinivas, Cyber Crime Sub-Inspector Krishna, and members of the CEIR team were present at the program.
