Jangaon, Oct.18 : Farmers in Gudur village under Palakurthi mandal of Jangaon district caught a gang involved in stealing livestock by utilizing local CCTV surveillance footage. The incident came to light after unidentified thieves stole 12 goats belonging to a local farmer, Naini Ravi, causing widespread concern among livestock owners in the area who have been facing frequent theft incidents.
Determined to catch the culprits, local farmers reviewed footage from CCTV cameras installed near a village rice mill and identified three suspicious individuals wandering in the area. Acting swiftly on the lead, the farmers tracked down and caught the suspects red-handed before handing them over to the Palakurthi police station. Subsequent police interrogation revealed the involvement of an additional accomplice, leading to their immediate arrest as well.
During initial recovery operations, police retrieved six of the stolen goats and handed them back to Naini Ravi. However, the aggrieved farmer appealed to the police authorities to recover the remaining six goats, emphasizing that smallholder farmers depend heavily on livestock for their daily livelihood and sustain heavy financial losses from such thefts.
