Khammam, July 16 : The Third Additional Junior First Class Judicial Magistrate (JFCM) Court in Khammam has sentenced a 39-year-old auto driver to three years and six months of rigorous imprisonment for a chain-snatching offense committed in May 2026.
The convict, identified as Edaraboyina Suman, a native of Khammam currently residing in Warangal, was found guilty of stealing a three-tola gold chain from a 51-year-old woman, Penugonda Lakshmikantham. The incident occurred on the night of May 4, 2026, when the victim was walking alone toward her home in Jubileepura after finishing her business work at Gandhi Chowk. Following her complaint, the Khammam Three Town Police registered a case and filed a swift charge sheet.
In his judgment, Magistrate Arava Praveen also imposed a fine of ₹30,000 on the convict. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional six months of simple imprisonment.
Khammam Police Commissioner Sunil Dutt highly commended the investigation and prosecution teams, including Inspector J. Mohan Babu, Assistant Public Prosecutor S. Gayatri, and court liaison officers, for their coordinated efforts in securing the conviction within just two months of the crime.
