The Warangal CP Swetha Reddy disclosed the details of vehicle thefts gangs
Warangal, August 03 : In a major crackdown on serial two-wheeler thefts, the Central Crime Station (CCS) and Kakatiya University Police jointly apprehended two persons and recovered 28 stolen motorcycles valued at Rs.25 lakh here in Warangal on Monday.
Disclosing the facts to the media, Warangal Police Commissioner Swetha Reddy said that the accused have been identified as 20-year-old Dontula Prashanth Kumar, a resident of Mancherial, and 21-year-old Durgam Sai Karthik from Jaipur mandal in Mancherial district. According to Central Zone DCP Kavitha, special teams were deployed following a surge in two-wheeler thefts, which frequently linked to chain-snatching offenses.
The duo was intercepted during a routine vehicle check while riding a suspicious Pulsar motorcycle (AP 36 AY 4700). Upon interrogation, the suspects confessed to stealing vehicles across multiple districts in Telangana to make easy money. Following their disclosure, police retrieved 28 motorcycles including Honda Shine, Hero Splendor, Hero Glamour, Bajaj Pulsar, and Honda Hornet hidden near Munipally village outskirts and Elkaturthy mandal.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the stolen vehicles belonged to various jurisdictions: 8 from Warangal Commissionerate, 9 from Karimnagar, 3 from Peddapalli (Ramagundam), 3 from Hyderabad, 2 from Siddipet, 2 from Bhupalpally, and 1 from Rachakonda. The accused already face previous property offense charges in several police stations.
Police stated that efforts are underway to trace the original owners and hand over the vehicles after completing legal formalities. Citizens have been advised to use extra security measures, such as wheel locks, and report suspicious activities to Dial-100 or their nearest police station. Top officials commended the CCS and KUC police teams for their swift action.
