Jagtial, Sept.15 : Around 150 migrant workers hailing from Jagtial district have been stranded in Oman after falling victim to a job fraud perpetrated by a local Gulf recruitment agent named Gangadhar. The aggrieved family members met Jagtial District Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar on Wednesday, submitting a petition urging official intervention to bring their relatives back home safely.
According to the victims, Gangadhar collected ₹2 lakh from each worker under the pretext of securing lucrative jobs in the Gulf. However, upon arriving in Oman, the workers discovered they were assigned entirely different manual labour duties than promised. Victims reported that the local firm has been denying them proper salaries and basic meals. While a few workers managed to return to India at their own expense with support from Union Minister Bandi Sanjay, the remaining workers are unable to afford return tickets and are pleading for government repatriation.
The victims’ families alleged that the agent is a habitual offender with multiple cheating cases registered against him. In the past, law enforcement agencies had arrested Gangadhar, seizing 104 passports and several visas; however, he allegedly resumed his illegal operations by altering the name of his consultancy firm. Demanding swift legal action, the families urged police authorities to arrest Gangadhar immediately and freeze his fraudulent operations.
