Jagtial, Sept. 10 : Dr. A. Vijaya Bhaskar, Coordinator and Principal Scientist of the Telangana Rythu Vignan Kendra, conducted extensive field visits across several villages in Malyala and Kodimial mandals including Rajarampalli, Nookapalli, and Potharam in Jagtial district to educate farmers on essential plant protection measures for various standing crops.
During the inspections of paddy, cotton, turmeric, red gram, and maize fields, scientists provided targeted advice to mitigate pest infestations and soil degradation. For paddy crops, farmers were advised to create alleyways within fields to reduce pest incidence and to spray Cartop Hydrochloride at 2 grams per liter of water to control stem borer attacks. Addressing plant mortality in saline paddy soils, scientists recommended draining field water to allow soil drying and advised cultivating green manure crops like Jeeluga (Sesbania), Janumu (Sunnhemp), or green gram prior to the rainy season to improve soil health over time through crop rotation.
For cotton fields affected by sap-sucking pests, experts recommended spraying a combination of 1.5g Acephate or 2.0ml Chlorpyrifos along with 5ml neem oil per liter of water. To manage Fall Armyworm in maize, farmers were guided to spray 0.5ml Spinetoram per liter of water and install 10 pheromone traps per acre. Additionally, a spray of 1ml Propiconazole per liter of water was advised to curb leaf spot disease in turmeric.
The awareness program saw participation from Mandal Agricultural Officer Sri Chandra Deepak, Dr. Sainath, Agricultural Extension Officer Sri Srinivasu, local Sarpanch Smt. Goda Devi, PACS Chairman Gangadhar, and progressive farmers including Ramarao, Naveen, Srinivas, and others.
