Mancherial, Sept.10 : Police under the Ramagundam Police Commissionerate have arrested two individuals for allegedly hacking a woman to death with an axe over suspicions of practicing sorcery (manti-mantralu) at Nelki Venkatapur village in Dandepally mandal. Mancherial ACP R. Prakash revealed the arrest details alongside Luxettipet CI Ramana Murthy.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Singathi Ramesh (40) and his mother Singathi Rambai (55), both residents of Nelki Venkatapur village. The victim, Singathi Lakshmi, was the wife of Ramesh’s relative Singathi Lachaiah. According to police, Ramesh and Rambai had been suffering from prolonged health issues and held a superstitious belief that Lakshmi was practicing black magic on them. Believing that killing Lakshmi would cure their ailments, the mother-son duo hatched a plan to murder her.
On the night of September 8, 2026, around 8:30 PM, when Lakshmi was alone at home, Rambai stood guard outside while Ramesh entered with an axe and struck Lakshmi on the neck, killing her instantly before fleeing the spot. Following orders from Ramagundam Police Commissioner Ambar Kishor Jha and Mancherial DCP Eggadi Bhaskar, special police teams tracked down the accused and arrested them near Gudem temple. Police seized an axe, a mobile phone, and a motorcycle used in the crime.
Warning the public against superstitions, ACP R. Prakash stated that stringent legal action would be taken against anyone attempting to take the law into their own hands under the guise of black magic. He urged citizens to seek proper medical help for illness rather than harboring blind beliefs.
