Warangal, Sept.17 : The Warangal Commissionerate Police have uncovered a massive interstate cybercrime network operating from Hanamkonda district. Police arrested 22 members of a gang that cheated hundreds of innocent people across India. Details of the operation were shared during a media conference by Warangal Police Commissioner Swetha.
The gang lured victims by promising low-interest loans and helped them open new bank accounts. The criminals then paid the victims a small commission of ₹6,000 to ₹8,000 to buy their bank passbooks, ATM cards, and chequebooks. These compromised accounts, known as mule accounts, were used to illegally transfer money obtained through cyber frauds. While the racket originated in Warangal, the investigation revealed that its network spread to Delhi, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh.
Detailed investigations confirmed that this gang was directly involved in 185 cybercrime cases registered across the country. Police arrested two key operatives in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, while special teams have been deployed to catch four remaining primary suspects.
Officers seized 216 bank passbooks, 22 ATM cards, 8 chequebooks, multiple SIM cards, smartphones, hard disks, QR scanners, and two luxury cars from the arrested individuals. Police Commissioner Swetha strongly advised the public never to sell or share their personal bank accounts and identity details with strangers.
