Jagtial, Oct.4 : In a distressing incident, standing paddy crop ready for harvest was completely destroyed after unidentified miscreants sprayed weedicide over a field in Jagadevpet village under Velgatoor mandal of Jagtial district. The victimized farmer, Baddam Madhava Reddy, expressed grief after witnessing his maturing crop wither away, estimating financial damages to be around ₹50,000.
Farmer Madhava Reddy had cultivated paddy on his 16 guntas of land. As the crop reached the harvesting stage, three individuals allegedly trespassed into his field during the night and sprayed heavy doses of weedicide. CCTV cameras installed at the field captured footage showing three persons entering the land and spraying the toxic chemical onto the crop.
According to Madhava Reddy, the land was purchased two years ago from a co-villager, following which a land dispute had been ongoing. He alleged that the seller had previously attempted to disrupt his cultivation. The farmer lodged an official complaint at the local police station, submitting the CCTV footage as evidence. Police registered a case based on his complaint and initiated an investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits, while the farmer appealed to authorities for compensation and protection.
