Karimnagar, Oct.5 : Surgeons at Prathima Medical College and Hospital achieved a significant medical milestone by successfully performing a Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (keyhole bypass surgery) on a patient suffering from severe coronary artery disease. Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Cardiothoracic Surgeon Dr. Sai Nagalakshmi detailed the procedure conducted on the patient, identified as Raipur Deenu.
Medical experts explained that stenting was not viable for the patient due to severe blockages located at the origin of his cardiac blood vessels. Consequently, doctors opted for a minimally invasive approach rather than traditional open-heart surgery, which requires cutting the sternum (chest bone). Through a small incision without opening the chest bone, the surgical team successfully placed two grafts, achieving total revascularization. The patient’s condition is reported to be stable following the procedure.
The hospital management highlighted that this complex procedure, which typically incurs high costs at corporate hospitals, was provided completely free of charge to the poor patient under the state government’s Aarogyasri scheme. Hospital authorities noted that keyhole procedures for valve replacements and related cardiac surgeries are also fully operational under Aarogyasri. The press conference was attended by Principal Dr. John Israel, Medical Superintendent Dr. C.N. Prasad, Registrar & Administrator Prasad Rao, CT Surgeon Dr. Sai Nagalakshmi, and Cardiac Anesthetist Dr. Nikhil. Expressing gratitude, the patient’s family members from Ezgaon village in Sirpur Kagaznagar thanked the doctors and hospital staff for saving his life through timely intervention.
