Karimnagar, July 14 : Food Safety Department officials, in collaboration with various consumer organisations, conducted a joint inspection at a prominent supermarket in Sitarampur of Karimnagar on Tuesday. The inspection focused on the quality of essential food items, identifying substandard chili powder, ginger paste, cooking oils, paneer and other dairy products.
Dr. Pallepadu Damodar, President of the South Indian States Consumer Coordination Committee, urged the government to enforce strict measures against food adulteration. He recommended establishing dedicated micro-laboratories in three distinct zones across Telangana to streamline testing.
Sambaraju Chakrapani, National General Secretary of the Consumer Council, also pushed for the deployment of mobile testing laboratories to ensure rapid food quality checks across all regions. Chakrapani highlighted that the Consumer Council is already organizing awareness campaigns by dividing the state into three zones under designated convenors. He urged the government to appoint registered consumer organization representatives to district food advisory committees to strengthen public oversight.
During the drive, Food Inspector Rohith Reddy and Food Safety Officer Ankit Reddy collected samples of chili powder suspected of containing stems and synthetic colours. The officials assured the consumer representatives that appropriate legal action would be initiated immediately upon receiving the laboratory test reports. District consumer leaders including A.Mukunda Reddy, A.Sambasiva Reddy and P.Kiran Kumar participated in the raids and awareness drive.
