Peddapalli, July 14 : The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Karimnagar Unit on Tuesday arrested Kallepalli Sathish Kumar, an Assistant Engineer at the Peddapalli Municipal Office, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.2 lakhs.
According to officials, the 33-year-old official was caught red-handed at his residence. He had demanded the bribe from a local contractor to process and forward a final bill of Rs.12,28,748 to the Telangana Urban Finance and Infrastructure Development Corporation (TUFIDC) in Hyderabad for sanctioning. The bill pertained to contract work involving the development of Hindu graveyards at Tenuguwada and Kunaram Road in Peddapalli town.
ACB officials recovered the tainted bribe amount of Rs.2 lakhs from the possession of the accused officer. During a subsequent search of Sathish Kumar’s residence, the bureau also unearthed and seized unaccounted cash amounting to Rs.32,31,900.
The Assistant Engineer has been taken into custody and will be produced before the Special Judge for SPE and ACB Cases in Karimnagar. Further investigation is underway, while the complainant’s identity has been withheld for security reasons.
The ACB has urged citizens to report any corrupt demands by public servants using the toll-free number 1064, or through WhatsApp (9440446106), ensuring that the names of complainants will remain strictly confidential.
