Peddapalli, July-17 : A special POCSO court in Peddapalli district on Friday sentenced a 23-year-old youth to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 for sexually assaulting a minor girl.
The convict, Dunnapothula Kumar, targeted the victim when she was a Class 9 student in Odela mandal. Under the guise of love, Kumar intercepted the girl while she was traveling, forced her onto his motorcycle, and took her to an isolated spot near Sultanabad where he sexually assaulted her.
He assaulted her again later in their village. The crime came to light after the girl complained of severe stomach pain, and medical examinations at a government hospital confirmed she was pregnant.
Following a complaint at the Potkapalli police station, then ACP S. Sarangapani investigated the case, arrested the accused, and filed a charge sheet.
Special Court Judge Swapna Rani pronounced the verdict after finding Kumar guilty of all charges. Ramagundam Police Commissioner Amber Kishore Jha appreciated Public Prosecutor Donkena Ravinder and the local police team for their prompt investigation and for successfully securing the conviction.
