Adilabad, July-19 : With the state government intensifying its vigil on ganja and other narcotics, local youth are increasingly turning to restricted prescription drugs for alternative intoxication. The Adilabad police, in tandem with the Drug Control Administration, have busted two major rackets involved in the illegal sale of high-risk medical injections and prohibited painkillers across the district.
In the first major operation, the Adilabad town police arrested a seven-member gang, including an RMP doctor identified as Shinde Jagannath, Jagadamba Pharmacy Agency organizer Ramesh, and Get Well Medical store owner Kamaruddin. The network was found illegally procuring “Termin” (Mephentermine Sulphate) injections—a Schedule-H prescription drug primarily used to regulate blood pressure during surgery anesthesia—and selling them to addicted youth. A single vial worth ₹390 was being black-marketed for as high as ₹1,500.
Expressing deep concern, Adilabad Superintendent of Police Akhil Mahajan stated, “Youth are learning about these prescription drugs through various media and getting severely addicted. We have identified those making quick money by illegally selling these restricted medicines, and stringent action will be taken against them.”
In a separate incident, Utnoor police caught a gang crushing banned painkiller tablets, mixing them with water, and directly injecting the solution into their veins. “A pharmacist named Kadam Shekhar was found actively selling these tablets to youth without any medical prescription,” confirmed ASP Ruthwik Sai Kotte. Medical experts, including Dr. Om Prakash from Adilabad RIMS, warned that this shift toward chemical addiction carries lethal physical and mental health risks.
