Mancherial, July 21 : Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) handed over financial assistance of Rs.5 lakh each to the families of four farmers who died in a wall collapse incident in Luxettipet mandal of Mancherial district on Tuesday.
Delivering a total aid of Rs.20 lakh on behalf of the BRS party, KTR heavily criticized the Congress government for its total neglect of the agricultural sector and indifferent attitude toward farmer welfare.
The tragedy occurred on May 6 when the four farmers were guarding their harvested grain at a local procurement center. They were forced to keep vigil for weeks due to severe delays in official grain procurement, shortage of gunny bags, and lack of government action. A wall near the center collapsed on them while they were guarding their crop, leading to their tragic deaths.
Speaking to the occasion, KTR expressed deep anguish over the state government’s inaction, stating that despite BRS leaders holding an eight-hour protest demanding justice, the ruling Congress government offered no timely relief. He pointed out that even after more than two months, the state government had failed to extend financial aid, leaving three of the four victimized families without a single rupee, while only one family received benefits through the previous KCR-introduced Rythu Bima scheme, he added.
KTR stated that BRS Chief K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) immediately directed the party to stand by the grieving families and extend financial support. He demanded that the state government immediately wake up to the realities on the ground, streamline grain procurement, and provide official compensation to the families who lost their primary breadwinners.
