Rajanna Sircilla, July 21 : An elderly couple’s decision to donate their life savings of over Rs.7 lakh to the Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy Temple’s Annadhanam Trust has sparked a family dispute, with their daughters appealing to temple officials to return the money here in Rajanna Sircilla district.
Pasula Laxminarayana and his wife Janabai, residents of Subhash Nagar in Vemulawada, donated Rs.7,01,116 to the shrine’s free meal trust out of deep devotion.
Overcome with emotion after handing over the amount at the temple protocol office, Laxminarayana shed tears of joy and expressed gratitude for being able to serve the deity in the final phase of his life. Temple officials, including Supervisors Srinivas Sharma and Srinivas, accepted the donation and issued an official receipt along with temple prasadam.
However, the gesture soon led to distress within the family. Upon learning of the massive donation, the couple’s daughters, whom the elderly parents had already raised and married off approached the temple authorities requesting a refund. They claimed their father was mentally unwell and stated that the funds were critically needed for their parents’ ongoing medical expenses and daily maintenance.
Temple officials expressed sympathy but turned down the family’s request to return the funds. They clarified that the donation was accepted with the voluntary consent of the elderly couple and noted that temple rules do not permit the refund of money once it has been formally offered to the deity.
The incident has become a widely discussed topic among locals in the region, highlighting the emotional clash between deep personal faith and practical family obligations.
