Warangal, July 23 : In a major move to protect standing crops and address agricultural water demand, the Telangana State Government operationalized nine out of ten heavy-duty pumps at the J. Chokka Rao Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme (JCRDLIS) on Wednesday night. The operational pumps across three phases, four units combined in Phase-1 and Phase-2, and five units in Phase-3 are currently lifting approximately 2,060 cusecs of water from the Godavari River.
The step follows a recent high-level field inspection conducted by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and In-charge Minister for erstwhile Warangal district Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy. During their visit to the Devadula pump house, the ministers pledged to run the pumping units to fill all 22 interconnecting reservoirs under the scheme. Encouraged by the government’s assurance, farmers across the command area initiated paddy cultivation, preparing nursery beds, and sowing crops using borewell and open-well water reserves.
Addressing these concerns, In-charge Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Minister Ponnam Prabhakar convened a comprehensive review meeting at the Hanamkonda Collectorate with collectors and public representatives from Warangal, Hanamkonda, Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, and Mulugu districts. Following the meeting, Minister Ponguleti assured farmers that the government is making every effort to run all Devadula pumps at maximum capacity to guarantee adequate water supply for the entire agricultural season.
