Rajanna Sircilla, 29 : In a landmark judgment, the Sircilla POCSO Court on Tuesday sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 for sexually harassing a minor girl under the Sircilla Town police station limits.
Judge Radhika Jaiswal delivered the verdict after finding the accused, Burla Chandra Shekar, guilty based on overwhelming evidence and testimonies. The case was registered following a complaint by the victim’s mother, after which then-DSP Chandrashekar Reddy conducted the investigation, arrested the accused, and filed the charge sheet.
During the trial, Public Prosecutor Rajinikanth presented 15 key witnesses before the court. The investigation team, supported by court monitoring personnel, submitted scientific and material evidence that conclusively proved the crime.
District Superintendent of Police Mahesh B. Gite lauded the efforts of the investigating officers, the prosecution team, and court staff for securing the conviction. He emphasized that the district police are taking strict action against POCSO offenders through fast-track investigations to ensure speedy justice. SP Gite warned that offenders cannot escape the law and asserted that stern punishments are necessary to deter crimes against minors in society.
