Warangal, July 29 : The revival of the historic Mamnoor Airport in Warangal is set to accelerate, with the Airport Authority of India (AAI) preparing to establish a temporary office on-site ahead of the upcoming tender process.
Official sources indicate that the local office will become operational within the next month. Currently, officials are forced to travel frequently between Hyderabad and Warangal to monitor progress, causing project delays and administrative expenses. Setting up an office on the airport premises will ensure continuous on-ground supervision, faster technical evaluations, seamless contractor coordination, and timely completion.
The development follows a key statement in the Rajya Sabha by Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol recently, who confirmed that the AAI has granted in-principle approval for the Warangal Mamnoor Airport project at an estimated cost of Rs.496.86 crore. Responding to queries posed by Congress MPs V. Narender Reddy and M. Anil Kumar Yadav, the Minister clarified that the completion timeline heavily depends on the Telangana state government acquiring the necessary land, securing statutory clearances, and establishing basic infrastructure. Once the land transfer is finalized, the Centre plans to fast-track construction.
Minister Mohol also provided updates regarding other airport proposals across Telangana under the Centre’s plan to boost Tier-2 regional connectivity. An AAI pre-feasibility study for a proposed airport site in Peddapalli district was completed and submitted to the state government in February. Additionally, AAI has completed a study on utilizing the unused airfield in Adilabad for joint civil and military operations, forwarding the required additional land details to state authorities. Under the regional connectivity scheme UDAN, 58 air routes have operationalized across Telangana so far.
