Warangal, August-11 : Former Deputy Chief Minister and Station Ghanpur MLA Kadiyam Srihari urged irrigation officials to continuously run all nine motors of the J. Chikka Devadula Lift Irrigation Scheme over the next 45 days to lift the remaining 15 TMC of water. Speaking at a review meeting held at the Irrigation Department office in Chintagattu of Hanamkonda on Tuesday, chaired by ENC Ramesh, Srihari stressed the need to pump water continuously until the end of September to protect standing crops across the region.
The MLA expressed concern that out of the total 20 TMC allocation, only 5 TMC of water has been lifted so far. He emphasized that operating all nine motors around the clock would allow officials to pump 2,000 cusecs daily, securing critical irrigation supplies. Highlighting the unpredictability of rainfall in September, Srihari urged authorities to fill the Sammakka Sarakka Barrage to capacity and immediately operationalize the completed tunnel connecting Dharmasagar to Ghanpur.
Reviewing project infrastructure, Srihari noted the vital roles played by the Ramappa, Dharmasagar, Ghanpur, and Chalivagu reservoirs. He instructed officials to draft a formal working manual to maintain optimal water levels across all reservoirs under the Devadula network. Additionally, Srihari criticized the slow progress of Devadula Phase-3 Package-6 works, which aim to irrigate 78,000 acres across four constituencies. He assured contractors that pending bills would be cleared within days and called for increased manpower and machinery to avoid further delays.
The review meeting was attended by MLAs Mamidala Yashaswini Reddy, K.R. Nagaraju, and Gandra Satyanarayana Rao, along with Chief Engineer Sudhir, Superintending Engineers Seetharam and Darshan, and various other department engineers and contractors.
