The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) commenced restoration of south portico at the historic Thousand Pillar Temple in Hanamkonda
Hanumakonda, July 31 : The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) of Hyderabad Circle, has commenced the restoration of the remaining south portico portion and the repair of broken dwarapala (doorkeeper) stone sculptures at the historic Thousand Pillar Temple in Hanamkonda on Friday. The project also includes extensive landscaping work inside the temple complex, with an estimated total cost of Rs.1.00 crore.
A expert team from the ASI, including Superintending Archaeologist Dr. Nihil Das and Deputy Superintending Archaeological Engineer K. Krishna Chaitanya, along with heritage expert Prof. Pandu Ranga Rao and Chennai-based Sthapati Sh. Kaniyappan, monitored the commencement of the works. Following the inspection, officials held a review meeting with line departments to ensure smooth execution and preservation of the Kakatiya-era architecture.
According to temple authorities, these heritage conservation and developmental initiatives were launched following directives from Union Minister of Coal and Mines G. Kishan Reddy. The project aims to enhance both the structural stability and aesthetic appeal of the ancient temple complex for visiting devotees and tourists.
