Warangal, July 21 : Officials form the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Hyderabad Branch Office, conducted a search and seizure operation at a prominent jewellery showroom establishment here in Warangal on Tuesday.
The raid was executed for violations of the BIS Act, 2016, and non-compliance with the mandatory gold hallmarking guidelines issued by the Union Government.
The enforcement drive was supervised by P. V. Srikanth, Director and Head of the BIS and led by Deputy Directors K. Kavin and Vijayraj. During the inspection, the team uncovered a massive stock of gold ornaments displayed for sale without the mandatory BIS Hallmark logo and six-digit Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) numbers.
Authorities confiscated approximately 7.875 kilograms of non-hallmarked gold ornaments, including necklace sets, rings, chains, and earrings. The total market value of the seized items is estimated at around Rs.10 crore. Formal legal proceedings have been initiated against the management of the establishment under relevant provisions of the BIS Act, 2016.
Addressing on the occasion, following the operation, P. V. Srikanth emphasized that gold hallmarking is compulsory across 33 districts in Telangana, including Warangal and Hanumakonda. He warned jewellers against selling uncertified gold and urged them to adhere strictly to quality compliance rules. Furthermore, he advised consumers to always inspect gold items for the official BIS logo, purity mark, and HUID code before making purchases, and to verify the authenticity of ornaments through the officials BIS CARE mobile application.
