Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Aug.24 : The opposition Bharat Rashtra Samiths (BRS) has blamed the ruling Congress government’s administrative failure for the severe power crisis across Telangana. BRS leaders expressed deep concern over daily power cuts impacting farmers, rural households, and industrial output. They warned that agricultural fields are drying up due to the lack of adequate electricity supply.
According to BRS leaders, the state power generation has collapsed due to poor management and the supply of low-quality coal to thermal power plants. Coal production at the Singareni Collieries has dropped significantly from 70 million tonnes in 2023–24 to 58 million tonnes in 2025–26. BRS stated that the state government owes nearly ₹52,000 crore to Singareni, causing severe operational disruptions and leaving over 4,000 miners without basic safety gear, boots, or essential drilling equipment for three years.
The crisis has severely disrupted farming operations across rural regions. Farmers are receiving barely four to six hours of power daily, forcing many to protest at sub-stations. Power generation at key facilities like the Kakatiya Thermal Power Plant (KTPP) has dropped drastically below capacity. Additionally, industries are forced to depend on generators for up to 30 percent of their energy requirements to maintain operations.
BRS highlighted that during the previous government under K. Chandrashekar Rao, installed power capacity was expanded from 7,778 MW to 19,472 MW, providing 24-hour free electricity to nearly 30 lakh agricultural pump sets. A BRS delegation visited thermal plants and Singareni headquarters to inspect ground conditions, demanding that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy immediately resolve coal shortages and restore uninterrupted 24-hour quality power to protect standing crops.
