Warangal, Sept.23 : Widespread heavy rainfall triggered by Cyclone Arnab disrupted normal life, public transportation, and open-cast mining operations across the erstwhile districts of Warangal, Karimnagar, Khammam, and Adilabad on Wednesday. Heavy downpours accompanied by severe thunder and gale-force winds caused significant property damage, uprooting massive trees and snapping power cables in various regions. Distressed district administrations in Kothagudem and Mahabubabad declared local school holidays, while Khammam and Warangal authorities activated 24/7 emergency control rooms.
Despite torrential rains, devout citizens braved the inclement weather to participate in grand Ganesh immersion processions across major water bodies. In the Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) jurisdiction, Hanamkonda Collector Chahat Bajpai, Warangal Collector Dr. Satya Sarada, and GWMC Commissioner T. Venkanna formally launched immersion proceedings at China Vaddepally tank.
Civic authorities spent ₹2 crore to deploy 30 heavy-duty cranes across 17 designated lakes to handle the immersion of nearly 8,000 idols, deploying 145 expert swimmers, Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams, and round-the-clock sanitation crews to clear debris post-immersion.
Similarly, in Karimnagar district, over 4,000 Ganesh idols were taken out in vibrant processions amidst drum beats and devotional singing before being immersed in the Manakondur tank, Kothapalli, and Chintakunta water bodies. Multi-departmental teams ensured uninterrupted power supply, medical first-aid stations, and effective traffic diversions throughout Karimnagar, Huzurabad, and Jammikunta towns.
Meanwhile, across the Ramagundam Police Commissionerate covering Peddapalli and Mancherial zones, Police Commissioner Amber Kishor Jha deployed a massive force of 500 security personnel, AR special parties, and NCC cadets to oversee 5,189 idols across 77 designated riverbanks and tanks. Surveillance was maintained via live CCTV feeds and drone cameras, while police strictly enforced bans on high-decibel DJ systems and fireworks to ensure peaceful, incident-free celebrations across the region.
