Karimnagar, Oct.12 : Orthopedic surgeons at Karimnagar Medicover Hospital, Dr. Venugopal and Dr. Rakesh, advised that early diagnosis and timely treatment of arthritis yield the best outcomes. Speaking at an awareness program held at Medicover Hospital on Monday to mark World Arthritis Day, the doctors explained that arthritis causes joint swelling, pain, stiffness, and difficulty in movement, manifesting in various forms such as osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
The doctors highlighted that factors such as aging, excess joint stress, obesity, past joint injuries, and autoimmune changes contribute to the onset of arthritis. They noted that severe joint pain can make daily activities, including walking, climbing stairs, and standing up, painful and challenging. Depending on the severity and degree of joint damage, early stages can be managed effectively with prescribed medications, physiotherapy, regular exercise, and weight control.
Warning against the continuous self-medication of painkillers, the surgeons cautioned that prolonged, unadvised use increases the risk of stomach ulcers, internal bleeding, kidney damage, and cardiovascular issues. However, ignoring joint pain altogether leads to reduced mobility and severely impairs daily life. In advanced cases where conservative treatments fail, surgical procedures, including knee or hip replacement, can significantly reduce pain and restore joint mobility.
The awareness seminar was organized under the leadership of Hospital Center Head Gurram Kiran. Anesthesia Department Head Dr. Vinay Kumar, Marketing Manager Kota Karnakar, and other hospital staff members were also present during the program.
