Karimnagar, Sept.21 : An inter-state burglary gang created a sensation in Karimnagar district after breaking open two State Bank of India (SBI) ATMs using gas cutters and decamping with over ₹15.70 lakh in cash during the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2026. The thefts took place back-to-back at Thimmapur mandal headquarters and Durshed village on the outskirts of Karimnagar town between 3:00 AM and 4:00 AM.
According to police, a group of three to four culprits executed the crime after conducting prior reconnaissance. To conceal their identities, the burglars wore women’s attire and sprayed paint over CCTV cameras inside the ATM kiosks before using gas cutters to slice through the cash chests. They looted over ₹7.13 lakh from the Thimmapur ATM and ₹8.55 lakh from the Durshed kiosk—where CMS Info Systems Limited had recently loaded cash—before fleeing in a Mahindra Scorpio bearing a fake Maharashtra registration plate.
Senior officials, including Additional DCP Venkataramana and Rural ACP Vijay Kumar, inspected the crime scenes along with Clues teams and dog squads to gather finger impressions and technical evidence. Investigators suspect the Haryana-based gang bypassed major toll plazas like Renikunta and Basanthnagar by taking rural routes, heading toward Maharashtra via Mancherial. Karimnagar Police formed special teams to trace the suspects, examining links to similar ATM burglaries reported in Medak district and past high-profile jewelry heists.
