Karimnagar, Oct.11 : The District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) demonstrated the humane face of judicial intervention by ensuring critical eye surgery for a six-month-old abandoned infant. The child, named Rishi, was rescued from the cradle of a government hospital and brought to Shishugruham in Karimnagar on September 2. His condition was discovered during a routine inspection conducted by Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Yashwanth Singh.
During his three-hour visit to the facility on September 18, Yashwanth Singh noticed the infant crying uncontrollably for extended periods. Upon inquiring with the caretaking staff, he learned that local medical professionals had suspected an underlying optical ailment. Reacting promptly, the judge directed immediate specialized medical care. Initial tests conducted in Karimnagar on September 21 and September 30 indicated severe complications in both eyes, prompting an urgent referral to advanced healthcare facilities in Hyderabad.
Coordinating directly with District Welfare Officer Saraswathi, District Child Protection Officer Parveen, and Shishugruham Manager Apoorva, the DLSA facilitated Rishi’s transfer to the L. V. Prasad Eye Institute in Hyderabad on October 3. Comprehensive evaluations, including tests for glaucoma and a 2D echocardiogram, confirmed the necessity of surgical intervention. On October 7, specialists successfully performed surgery on the child’s right eye, and the infant was safely brought back to Karimnagar on October 8.
Expressing his commitment to vulnerable children, Senior Civil Judge and DLSA Secretary Yashwanth Singh stated, “The true essence of legal services extends beyond the courtroom to safeguarding the health, dignity, and fundamental rights of helpless children who cannot voice their own pain.” He emphasized that judicial institutions must act with empathy to ensure that institutionalized orphans receive equal access to life-saving medical care.
Following the successful procedure, medical team reviews are scheduled to determine the future course of treatment for Rishi’s left eye. Meanwhile, the DLSA has initiated daily health monitoring across local care homes to protect residents from seasonal viral fevers. This timely intervention highlights how judicial authorities can effectively protect the welfare of marginalized sections through compassionate governance and active inter-departmental coordination.
