Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Oct.8 : The Bhupalpally District Principal Judge, J. Jeevan Kumar, on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 4,000 after convicting him of murder and robbery. The convict, identified as Perugu Ramesh, a resident of Peddakomatipalli village, was found guilty of killing a man for cash in a 2020 case under the Mogullapally police station limits.
According to the prosecution, the victim, Akkapelli Mallaiah (38) of Parlapalli village, withdrew Rs 50,000 from the Kakatiya Grameena Bank in Akinepally on September 4, 2020. Noticing the cash, Ramesh offered Mallaiah a ride on his two-wheeler with the intention to rob him. En route, Ramesh purchased liquor, and both consumed it near Mallaiah’s agricultural well. Taking advantage of Mallaiah’s intoxicated state, Ramesh struck him on the head with a heavy boulder, stole the Rs 50,000, and dumped the body into the well before fleeing.
When Mallaiah failed to return home, his father lodged a missing person complaint at the Mogullapally police station. The then Sub-Inspector Niharika registered a case, while Chityal Circle Inspector M. Sai Ramana led the investigation that tracked down Ramesh. Police arrested Ramesh, recovered evidence, and filed a comprehensive chargesheet in court.
Public Prosecutor Edulapuram Srinivas presented the case effectively before the court. Following the conviction, Bhupalpally District Superintendent of Police Sirishetti Sankeerth commended the investigating officers, court monitoring personnel, liaison officers, and duty constables for their systematic presentation of evidence that ensured justice.
