Mulugu, Oct.14 : The district has been selected under the prestigious Nirbhaya Fund for an innovative pilot project aimed at enhancing the safety, security, and empowerment of women and young girls. The initiative focuses on developing safe, inclusive urban spaces and creating a supportive environment for women’s social and economic development.
Mulugu District Collector Borkhade Hemant Sahadevrao attended a high-level review meeting organized by the Union Ministry of Women and Child Development in New Delhi on Wednesday. The conference reviewed operational blueprints, inter-departmental coordination, infrastructure development, and concrete measures needed to execute the safety project across the district.
Under this project, the district administration will focus on establishing safe public spaces and upgrading civic infrastructure tailored to the needs of women and girls. Key priorities include conducting safety awareness campaigns, fostering equal opportunities, and creating dedicated platforms—such as a proposed ‘Nirbhaya Sadan’—where women workers and unorganized sector employees can discuss challenges, share achievements, and plan developmental initiatives.
District officials stated that the selection of Mulugu under the Nirbhaya Fund will significantly strengthen women’s self-reliance, safety, and dignity. District Welfare Officer E.P. Premalatha also attended the New Delhi meeting alongside Collector Borkhade Hemant Sahadevrao as the district administration prepares to roll out the initiative in a coordinated manner.
