A debtor attempted to settle his loan using ordinary gravel coated in gold paint here in Nizamabad district.
Nizamabad, July 31 : A bizarre case of fraud has come to light in Nizamabad district where a debtor attempted to settle his loan using ordinary gravel coated in gold paint. The incident took place under the jurisdiction of the Ditchpally Police Station.
According to the police, the accused, identified as Srinivas, had previously borrowed Rs.1.30 lakh from Ramesh, a resident of Hamalwadi. Struggling to repay the debt despite repeated demands, Srinivas concocted a story about discovering a hidden treasure containing valuable gold stones. He convinced Ramesh that he would hand over the treasure in exchange for clearing the loan, provided Ramesh brought an additional Rs.32,000 to retrieve the items at Ghanpur village in Ditchpally mandal.
Believing the claim, Ramesh arrived at the designated location and handed over the cash. Srinivas then presented him with four gold stones. Upon closer inspection, however, a suspicious Ramesh realized that they were merely ordinary gravel stones painted with gold polish.
Realizing he had been duped, Ramesh lodged a complaint with the Ditchpally police. Officers registered a case and launched an investigation to apprehend Srinivas. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent treasure-hunting schemes.
