Bhadradri Kothagudem, Sept.12 : A serious lapse in hostel hygiene and student safety has come to light at the Telangana State Minority Residential Girls’ College and Hostel in Sarapaka, Burgampahad mandal, where multiple female students were bitten by rats while sleeping.
The residential institution houses between 160 and 200 students across first and second-year intermediate courses in a single complex. On the night of September 9, rodents attacked four students inside the hostel rooms, biting them on their feet. Hostel staff and college management reportedly attempted to keep the incident hidden by quietly transporting the injured students to the Bhadrachalam Area Hospital, where they were administered Tetanus Toxoid (TT) injections before being brought back to the campus.
This marks the second rodent attack at the facility within a week, following a similar incident on September 3 in which three other students sustained injuries. Parents have expressed sharp outrage over the administration’s persistent negligence and failure to alert higher officials. When questioned, College Principal Jyothi acknowledged the incident, stating that the rats were entering from external drainage lines and that local sarpanch assistance was sought to seal the drains. However, her admission that senior officials were not informed because it was deemed a “minor issue” has drawn criticism regarding the management’s commitment to student welfare.
