Warangal, Oct.17 : In a landmark verdict, the Warangal Principal District and Sessions Court sentenced 10 people, including the victim’s wife, to life imprisonment for the brutal murder of Dattu Srinivas. Principal District Sessions Judge V.B. Nirmala Geethamba awarded the sentence and imposed a fine of ₹2,000 on each convict after determining that all accused acted in unison to commit the crime.
The case dates back to February 13, 2024, stemming from a marital dispute between Dattu Srinivas of Rangampeta and Bajjuri Ramyasri of Rangasaipeta, who married in 2015. Following persistent domestic friction, Ramyasri moved back to her parents’ home and filed cases against her husband. During the Bodrai local festival in Rangasaipeta, Srinivas visited his in-laws’ home under the premise of resolving differences, where a heated altercation ensued. The confrontation escalated into a physical assault during which the family members threw chilli powder into his eyes and struck him on the head with a pestle, killing him on the spot.
Mills Colony police registered a case based on a complaint by the victim’s father and filed a comprehensive chargesheet supported by vital CCTV footage recovered from the scene. Concluding the trial, the court convicted Ramyasri, her parents Ramesh and Vijaya, her brother Akhil, her friend Alekhya, and five other family members and associates, delivering a decisive message against violent resolution of marital disputes.
