Khammam, August 1 : The prestigious Suryapet-Devarapalli Greenfield Expressway (NH-365BB), designed to seamlessly connect Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, officially opened for vehicular traffic on Saturday. The new four-lane highway will significantly cut travel time and distance reducing the route between Hyderabad and Visakhapatnam by nearly 56 kilometers while providing a smooth, pothole-free, and safer passage for commuters heading toward Rajahmundry, Visakhapatnam and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Constructed by the Central Government at an estimated cost of Rs.4,451.87 crore spanning 162.13 kilometers, the greenfield corridor is expected to serve as a major economic driver for both states. By facilitating faster and more cost-effective transportation of agricultural produce, industrial goods, and essential commodities, the highway is set to spur regional development and attract new logistics hubs, commercial centers, and local employment opportunities along its stretch.
However, the opening was shadowed by an intense political credit war between the ruling Congress party in Telangana and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at the Center. The escalating dispute forced National Highways Authority officials to cancel a grand full-length trial run with vehicles that was scheduled for Saturday from Dhwamsalapuram in Khammam to Devarapalli.
While vehicles have been using the stretch from Devarapalli to Wyra over the past month, the entire stretch became fully operational following the recent completion of a critical railway overbridge (ROB) near Khammam. Despite the political friction surrounding its opening ceremonies, traffic movement on the highway continues as scheduled.
