Peddapalli, Sept.26: Civil excavation works for Unit-3 of the NTPC Telangana Super Thermal Power Project Stage-II officially commenced on Saturday following a ceremonial inauguration pooja held at the project site. Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has been selected as the main Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) vendor for the Stage-II expansion, with civil construction activities being executed unit by unit.
The NTPC Telangana Stage-II project involves the addition of three supercritical units including Unit-3, Unit-4, and Unit-5 each boasting a power generation capacity of 800 MW, bringing the total expansion capacity to 2,400 MW. The newly initiated civil works package for Unit-3 encompasses structural foundations for the TG Main Power House, Boiler Foundation, and Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) units.
To promote sustainable industrial development, the project integrates advanced Air Cooled Condenser (ACC) technology. The implementation of ACC systems will substantially minimize water consumption in the main plant compared to traditional cooling methods. Officials confirmed that the commissioning of all three Stage-II units will take place progressively, with full commercial operation targeted for completion by September 2030.
