Mulugu, August-10 : In a landmark visit signalling a major security and developmental shift, the Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand visited Karreguttalu along the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border on Monday. Unfurling the National Flag and releasing peace doves and balloons, the DGP marked the clearance of extremist presence from what was once an unhindered Maoist stronghold.
Accompanied by senior police, military, and civil administrative officials, DGP Anand announced that joint strategic operations, such as Operation Kagar executed alongside central forces, have successfully dismantled the underground network along the border corridor, opening the doors for civil governance and infrastructure growth.
During his maiden tour of the area, DGP Anand visited the 39th CRPF base camp in Pamunuru, where he received a guard of honour, interacted directly with local villagers, and distributed essential items including rice and blankets to local Gutti Koya tribal residents. He inspected the newly built 28-to-30-kilometer road network connecting Pamunuru, Chelimela, Doli, and Tadapala, directing officials to ensure high execution standards so that administrative services reach remote habitations without hindrance.
In a key press conference held in Mulugu, DGP Anand highlighted the surrender of 40-year Maoist veteran Kakarla Samatha alias Madhavi, who had served as a Central Committee staff member under former General Secretary Muppalla Lakshman Rao alias Ganapathi.
The DGP personally handed over a rehabilitation cheque of Rs.20 lakh to Samatha and issued a direct appeal to Ganapathi, his wife, and remaining underground cadres to shun violence and join the democratic mainstream. Under the state’s comprehensive rehabilitation policy, nearly Rs.2 crore has already been distributed to 23 surrendered Maoists, alongside benefits like free healthcare cards, vocational training, and self-employment loans.
The high-profile event took place under heavy security arrangements. Key officials present included CRPF ADG Vikram Singh, Multi-Zone-I IG Chandrasekhar Reddy, Intelligence IG Kartikeya were among those who present along with others.
