Khammam, July 18 : The Kamepalli police have arrested two inter-state fraudsters for cheating 18 people of Rs.85.7 lakh under the pretext of supplying gold at cheaper rates. The police recovered a car, two smartphones and a fake Aadhaar card from the accused here in Khammam district on Saturday.
According to Singareni Circle Inspector N. Sagar, the accused two were identified as Banoth Sai Kumar (20), from Kamepalli and Narayanappa Gurappa (63), a notorious offender from Bengaluru, Karnataka. Operating under the alias ‘Boga Lakshmi Narayana,’ Gurappa wore religious attire, organised community feasts, and hosted spiritual trips to win the trust of residents in local villages.
After establishing credibility, Gurappa and his driver, Sai Kumar, began collecting large sums of money from victims in February 2026 by promising cheap gold. They initially returned smaller amounts to build trust before fleeing with Rs.85.7 lakh. The accused confessed to spending the money on lavish lifestyles, trips to Goa, clearing old debts, and funding massive religious events to maintain their cover.
A routine check revealed that Gurappa has a history of cheating people across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana out of crores of rupees by promising government jobs, cheap land, and gold. The duo was intercepted by the police near Basithnagar. Following the arrests, Circle Inspector Sagar urged the public not to fall for such fraudulent offers and to the nearest police station immediately.
