Hyderabad, Sept.19 : Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught Keesara Inspector of Police (CI) Anjaneyulu and Sub-Inspector (SI) Jnanendra Reddy red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹5 lakh near Keesara Cheruvu late at night. The police officers demanded the bribe to grant station bail to a victim implicated in a case related to illegal Public Distribution System (PDS) rice trade.
According to ACB officials, the CI and SI initially demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh from the victim to facilitate station bail. After negotiations, the sum was settled at ₹5 lakh. In addition to the monetary bribe, the officers allegedly harassed the victim repeatedly by forcing him to place online delivery orders for biryani, drinks, and other items for them. Unable to bear the continuous harassment, the victim approached the ACB and filed a complaint.
The officers instructed the victim to deliver the ₹5 lakh bribe money to Keesara Cheruvu, where they were posted on Ganesh immersion bandobast duty. As SI Jnanendra Reddy accepted the bribe in the presence of CI Anjaneyulu, waiting ACB personnel trapped them. Upon realizing they were surrounded, the officers attempted to flee to avoid the chemical phenolphthalein test. ACB officials gave chase, apprehended both officers, conducted the chemical test, and formally placed them under arrest.
