Mahabubabad, July 13 : In a powerful movement toward community-led policing, the Mahabubabad district Police’s ‘Mana Ooru-Mana Badhyatha’ (Our Village-Our Responsibility) campaign has successfully reached over 100 Gram Panchayats and municipal wards. Spearheaded by District Superintendent of Police (SP) Dr. Shabarish, the initiative aims to transform local villages into models of safety by eradicating narcotic drugs, improving road safety and strengthening local law and order.
The campaign has received an overwhelming response from the public. Residents, village elders, and local representatives are actively partnering with law enforcement to bring about meaningful social change. The initiative was rolled out in phases, covering 36 Gram Panchayats and 13 wards in May, and expanding to another 54 Panchayats and four wards in July. Station House Officers and police personnel, alongside local Sarpanches and Ward Councillors, have been conducting intensive door-to-door surveys to educate locals.
A major highlight of the campaign is the ‘Wall of Promise.’ Hundreds of enthusiastic youths and villagers have signed this public pledge, declaring their absolute commitment to stay away from ganja (marijuana) and other narcotics. Permanently installed in the villages, the wall stands as a powerful daily reminder of the community’s collective resolve to build a completely drug-free society.
Banoth Rajendar Naik, an aspiring youth from the Islavath Thanda of Kuravi village told this newspaper, “For a long time, we wanted our village to be safe and clean, but we didn’t know how to make a permanent change. The ‘Mana Ooru – Mana Badhyatha’ campaign gave us that chance. Signing the ‘Wall of Promise’ wasn’t just about putting our names on a wall, it was a serious pledge by all the youth here to completely wipe out ganja and protect our friends. We are proud to take ownership of our village’s safety and show the entire state what a united community can do.”
Road safety has also taken center stage in this rural transformation. SP Dr. Shabarish recently inaugurated a massive helmet bike rally at Gopalapuram village in Garla mandal. Addressing the gathering, he urged villages to strictly enforce a ‘No Helmet, No Entry’ rule to save precious lives. Furthermore, the campaign has led to historic village resolutions mandating the installation of CCTV cameras to deter crime and boost public security.
Praising the immense public support, SP Dr. Shabarish thanked the local leaders and the youth for their unyielding dedication. He expressed his confidence that with such strong community participation and voluntary resolutions along with the proactive safety measures taken in Mahabubabad will soon serve as an inspiring model for the entire state of Telangana.
