Warangal, July -19 : Travellers on the Warangal-Hyderabad National Highway (NH-163) can look forward to a smoother and safer journey as the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has approved a major flyover project near Bibinagar AIIMS. The project aims to eliminate a dangerous ‘blackspot’ where road accidents have become frequent. A 690-meter-long, six-lane elevated flyover will be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs.98.26 crore to streamline traffic and protect commuters and hospital visitors.
The new structure will consist of 23 spans and is designed to separate high-speed highway traffic from local vehicles entering the hospital. In addition to the flyover, the project includes the expansion of a 1.70-kilometer stretch of the highway and the construction of new service roads totalling 1.48 kilometers. These service roads will connect the main and emergency gates of AIIMS, ensuring that ambulances and patients can reach the hospital quickly without getting stuck in highway traffic.
To further improve safety and convenience, the NHAI plan incorporates modern infrastructure features. This includes advanced highway lighting, new bus shelters, updated traffic signals, and dedicated footpaths for pedestrians. The drainage system in the area will also be upgraded, and six existing culverts will be rebuilt to prevent waterlogging and ensure the long-term durability of the road.
Local experts believe this project will be a significant relief for those traveling toward Warangal and for the thousands of people visiting the AIIMS facility. By addressing the current traffic bottlenecks and safety hazards, the new infrastructure is expected to drastically reduce the number of accidents and provide a much fater route for emergency medical services in the region.
