Bhadradri Kothagudem, July 17 : Highlighting the grim state of emergency care at government medical facilities, a shocking incident of medical negligence has came to light here at the Mother and Child Health Care (MCH) Center in Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
Due to the alleged failure of hospital staff to respond in time, a pregnant woman was forced to deliver her baby while standing up next to a ward bed, causing the newborn to fall to the hard floor and sustain head injuries.
The victim, identified as Bhavani from Dammapeta mandal, had been admitted to the MCH center for her first delivery. According to her family, she began experiencing agonizing labour pains late in the evening on Thursday.
Despite multiple desperate pleas from the woman and her relatives, the duty doctors and nurses allegedly ignored them. Unable to bear the pain, Bhavani gave birth while standing by her bed. The infant plunged directly onto the floor, resulting in head injuries and causing the mother to bleed profusely.
The incident sparked intense panic among other pregnant women in the ward and led to angry protests by the victim’s relatives, creating a tense atmosphere at the hospital. Police personnel rushed to the spot to diffuse the situation and restore order.
Meanwhile, hospital authorities strongly denied the allegations of negligence. Doctors claimed the family failed to inform the nursing staff when the woman’s labour advanced rapidly, adding that she would have been shifted to the labour room immediately had they been notified.
They also stated that both the mother and child are currently under critical medical care, with the infant’s condition being closely monitored, while senior health officials are expected to launch a full inquiry.
