Scuffle leaves former Chief Whip injured
Hanumakonda, Sept.22 : High tension prevailed at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, after police blocked former Chief Whip and BRS leader Dasyam Vinay Bhaskar from entering the facility to inspect patient care facilities and inquire about recent ceiling collapse incidents. Following a second plaster collapse incident within two days—this time in the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit (RICU) Vinay Bhaskar, accompanied by former party corporators, attempted to enter the hospital premises through the mortuary gate to meet affected patients.
Police personnel deployed at the scene physically intercepted the BRS delegation, leading to heated arguments and intense pushing between officers and party activists. During the scuffle, Vinay Bhaskar sustained injuries to his hand and leg before being moved to a nearby private hospital for medical treatment. BRS cadres staged a road blockade outside the mortuary gate to protest the police action and raised slogans against the state government, while senior BRS leaders Boinpally Vinod Kumar and Sirikonda Madhusudhana Chari later visited Vinay Bhaskar to inquire about his health.
Addressing the media, Vinay Bhaskar criticized the state administration over poor maintenance at MGM Hospital, alleging a shortage of basic infrastructure such as stretchers, wheel chairs, and saline stands. In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), BRS Working President K.T. Rama Rao condemned the police action against a senior public representative, demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident, strict action against errant officers, and immediate measures to upgrade safety standards across state-run hospitals.
