Hanamkonda, Sept.11 : A missing woman case registered in Hasanparthy mandal center has ended in a grim revelation, with the police arresting a car driver from Karnataka for murdering the woman and chopping her body into pieces after she pressured him to marry her. Hasanparthy Police Inspector Mahender disclosed the investigation details during a press conference on Friday.
According to the police, Thautam Swapna (40), a daily wage labourer from Hasanparthy, was reported missing by her father, Amancha Rajender, on May 31. Following the complaint, special police teams led by Inspector Mahender launched a probe and tracked technical evidence, which eventually led them to Voddirajula Basavaraj, a car driver hailing from Gududuru village in Ballari district, Karnataka.
Investigations revealed that Swapna had developed an acquaintance with Basavaraj that turned romantic. When Swapna pressured him to marry her and threatened to leak private photos and videos if he refused, Basavaraj feigned agreement to protect his reputation and summoned her to Ballari. He then took her near the local Gavi Siddheshwara temple and murdered her. To destroy evidence, he chopped her body into pieces the following day, disposed of the remains in a forest, burnt his blood-stained clothes, and threw her mobile phone into a tank.
Police apprehended Basavaraj on the Ambala-Kamalapur main road during a routine vehicle check after he attempted to flee upon spotting the police team. During interrogation, he confessed to the murder, leading to his arrest and remand to judicial custody. Warangal Police Commissioner Shwetha appreciated Inspector Mahender, Sub-Inspectors Sujith, Ravi, and Devender, AO Salman Pasha, and the operational team for successfully cracking the case.
