Jagtial, July 15 : In a landmark judgement, the Fast Track Special Court for POCSO cases in Jagtial has sentenced five youth to life imprisonment for the gang-rape of a minor girl.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Ratna Padmavathi found all five accused Lokini Rajesh (22), Darangula Sai Kumar (21), Mogilipaka Anil Kumar (19), Kunchepu Shiva (19), and Kunchepu Venkatesh (22) guilty under the relevant sections of the POCSO Act. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 on each convict and ordered a compensation of Rs.12 lakhs to be paid to the minor survivor.
The crime took place under the Metpally Police Station limits in October 2020. A comprehensive investigation led by DSPs Ghouse Baba and Ravindra Reddy ensured the collection of vital oral, documentary, and scientific evidence, which Special Public Prosecutor Ramakrishna Rao effectively presented during the trial.
Jagtial Superintendent of Police Ashok Kumar, commended the police and prosecution teams for securing the swift conviction. Reaffirming that the safety of women and children remains the highest priority, the SP urged victims to fearlessly approach the police to ensure offenders face strict legal action.
