Rajanna Sircilla, July 18 : District Superintendent of Police Mahesh B. Githe has instructed mobile shop owners to mandatory record the Aadhaar card and complete personal details of individuals selling or exchanging second-hand mobile phones.
Addressing a meeting with mobile sales and repair shop owners at the District Police Office in Rajanna Sircilla district on Saturday, the SP warned of strict legal action against anyone buying or selling stolen mobile devices.
He cautioned that stolen phones are frequently exploited for cybercrimes. Shop owners were advised to stay alert and immediately report suspicious sellers or individuals attempting to trade stolen devices to the nearest police station. The SP announced that shopkeepers who help apprehend mobile thieves or provide credible leads will be honoured with appreciation certificates.
Furthermore, the SP advised people to buy second-hand phones only through authorized stores or official exchange programs, ensuring they obtain a proper bill to avoid legal trouble.
He revealed that through collective cooperation, the district secured the top rank in South India and the first position in the state for three consecutive years in mobile phone recovery. Victims of mobile theft were urged to immediately block their devices on the central CEIR portal and lodge a police complaint.
