RAJANNA SIRCILLA, OCT.28 : The Telangana State Beedi Workers Union (BRTU) staged a massive demonstration in front of the Rajanna Sircilla District Collectorate on Wednesday, demanding the immediate settlement of long-pending wages, provident fund (PF) arrears, and bonuses for beedi workers and takeedars (contractors). Following the protest, union leaders submitted a detailed representation to the District Collector, urging swift administrative intervention against defaulting management teams to protect workers’ livelihoods.
Addressing the gathering under the leadership of BRTU District President Venkala Srinivas, union representatives highlighted the severe financial distress facing thousands of families due to persistent delays by beedi companies. The representation specifically outlined demands for the clearance of 12 months of pending wages and four months of PF dues for beedi workers, along with four months of unpaid commission for takeedars, four months of salary arrears for monthly employees, and two years of accrued bonus payments.
The union leaders noted that non-payment of legitimate dues has made it increasingly difficult for workers to meet basic household expenses, fund children’s education, and cover medical emergencies. They also urged authorities to ensure the release of specialized wages owed for manufacturing Ramzan Kappadi beedis, while directing factory management to reduce workplace pressure and establish strict timelines for regular monthly disbursements.
Several takeedars and factory employees participated in the agitation, raising slogans against the indifferent attitude of company management. Union representatives warned that protests would intensify across the district if the administration fails to initiate strict legal and regulatory action against defaulting beedi companies to enforce timely wage compliance.
